The Case of the Insufferable Slave

Picture

Forget murder. Day is the hardest case Flint's ever tried to solve.

Flint's future depends on a slave he doesn't want, doesn't trust and can't ignore. Day wastes no time letting Flint know that he is a valuable commodity, far too good to be wasted on a reluctant master. Flint suspects ulterior motives. Sure, he saved the life of Day's owner, Galapagos, but what man hasn't made a mistake in his life? Flint's learnt from the past, and he is determined not to be dragged into Galapagos' schemes -- and Day is up to his neck in them.

But when Flint's first case has him chasing after another of Galapagos' slaves, Day provides him the best lead he has. Cautiously learning his new partner, Flint gains an appreciation of Day's nature at last. But Day has schemes of his own afoot. Can Flint become the master Day needs, or will he be forced to let him go?

Written for the 2014 DRitC event hosted by the M/M Romance Group on Goodreads, The Case of the Insufferable Slave deals with adult themes and includes explicit sexual content. I strongly urge readers to consider the warnings and tags on the download site. The story is freely available in a variety of formats from  the M/M Romance Group.

AUTHOR BIO:

Bree's prompt had me from the word 'detective.' I read my first Agatha Christie at age eleven, and had read all her stories by my mid-teends. Arthur Conan Doyle was next on my list and rereading The Complete Adventures of Sherlock Holmes kept me sane during exam revision at University. A chance encounter at a book store in Japan led me to pick up Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers, quite possibly my favourite mystery author, but The Case of the Insufferable Slave owes the biggest debt to Raymond Chandler and his mastery of the hard-boiled genre.
